Spirited Legend Chikyuu: Interlude 'Leaving Home'

Leaving Home

It was a typical misty morning in Ohu, pups played, elders chatted about playing pups, and warriors trained. It had been a long time since anything of action had happened and the young koga female known as Chikyuu found herself once again perched on a rock at the base of the stone mountain Gajou trying to entertain herself with her thoughts. In Ohu everything was peaceful, calm, serene, and was beginning to drive the young dog up the wall from boredom she wanted to be out on patrol with the older dogs or training with the males. But of course such things were deemed inappropriate for a 'young lady' such as herself which she couldn't understand, hadn't her own mother been solider of Ohu? A leader at that?
Chikyuu was stirred from her thoughts when the dog in question approached her, Chikyuu regarded her beautiful mother with respect and moved over so the two could sit on the rock together. This was only Chikyuu's first year so she was slightly dwarfed by her regal mother. The two had always shared a bond that could be described as slightly telepathic, they could tell how one another felt and even knew what they were thinking, and from the look on Gayza's face, Chikyuu knew what was coming but before she could say anything Gayza spoke first. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" the green eyed female asked in a calm voice. "Aye...Ohu is always-" "I mean the horizon. Just seems to, beckon you doesn't it?" Gayza cut Chikyuu off, and that slight pause in the sentence made the young dog physically jump slightly. "I just... dream of being out here, free and with a pack of my own, having adventures and exploring all of Japan has to offer...." Chikyuu stopped when she heard her mother sigh softly. The young pup looked up to her mother whose eyes were calmly looking back into hers. The two sat there in silence for a while, just staring at one another.
"You still have plenty of daylight left....promise me you'll be careful...and that you'll come back to visit with you pack." The silence was finally broken by Gayza as a small smile crossed her face. Chikyuu was one of the only dogs that could read her mother's emotions and under that smile she could see a sense of sadness and fear. Chikyuu stood up with a smile, her tail wagging "I promise ma! I promise I'll come back! Thank you!" Without looking back the young koga took off, her eyes full of excitement as she passed by the other dogs of Ohu. Just before reaching the border Chikyuu stopped and sent a howl back to her mother and all of Gajou, as if promising to see them again someday.
